I see a new world shine through the fog. Sunlight is different, and it reflects differently from the ragged surfaces of the old. Too many familiar things are seen through in their insubstantiality.
An eternal summer is shining through, one you’ve met before in your heart, as a child, and even before that as an old peasant with your donkey.
Like a creeper of an underground world, I’ve been moving in total darkness, forgetful, nay oblivious to light. And I now see something new and unfamiliar, and I know it must be light. Still out of my reach but I’m absorbing a warmth I haven’t felt before, a warmth that ebbs and flows over the cracked surface of my being.
Something in me tells me that I had known light all along, in a strange way, not through a prior encounter in time but an essential unity in eternity. And that ineffable knowledge that always made itself felt in ways I didn’t understand, was precisely what has led the way so far, toward this opening. I’m crawling my way out through the hardest layers of darkness. I am that plant that took its time but eventually arrives and shoots out of the heart of stone.
Or like those ducklings floating on the river with a unborn trust in the gentle embrace of the river carrying them, I too float freely on this primordial Flux that has never disappointed beings, pouring them into a gentler expanse.
Or shall I become a river too? To perpetually give birth to an indiscriminate embrace! That’s what I’m told about the fate of this unfolding, that we are here as the ice formation on mountaintops, and upon the rise of the sun we shall melt into streams, join and hold hands to become rivers, and at last return to our oceanic essence.
When the fog thins, the eternal summer shines through.
