Our classical world is composed of mutually exclusive alternatives: Everything is either something or something else; it is a this or a that, though we may be unaware of these identities due to ignorance. A color is always either red or not red; two socks in a closed box are either a pair or not a pair whether we look inside or not. There is never a middle case in the classical world.
Quantum world, however, is quite different. Besides the two/many mutually exclusive alternatives everything in between too exists. A color is at once all colors until we pick one color by looking at it! A particle has no particular place until we force it to pick a place by measuring its place!
It turns out that mutually exclusive alternatives, our classical world, is only a small and often filtered portion of the underlying reality. Which reality we pick is determined by which reality we are inclined to pick, namely the reality that we desire.
The mutually exclusive alternatives of the classical world constitute a space of all possibilities existing at once, that is, a state of pure potentiality.
The logical principle that collapses in the quantum world is the principle of identity which says “Everything is itself.” Not anymore: Everything is both itself and not-itself until we make it into something that it is. In the quantum realm this new peculiarity is translated into the indistinguishability of identical particles. Quantum particles don’t have a history any more; they don’t have a memory or identity. They can at once choose to turn out at the other corner of the universe without being subject to Einstein’s principles of relativity. In fact, entanglement is a consequence of particles lacking fixed identities: No two electrons can be distinguished in principle.
Identity is a construct that we ourselves carry on our shoulders; it has no substantial reality; it is just like a name we are attached to. For us to be our ideal person we only need to be it; that is it. Actions don’t make people; it is people who make actions.
Data and census don’t determine people’s behavior; it is people who determine data and census.
You should not think twice about what you want to be, its chances, whether it is possible or not, or what the data or others say. You determine data and others by what and who you choose to be. Then choose to be your own idol and hero.
You are what you consider yourself to be.

The Neighborhood special guest collaborator, Tomaj Javadtash is a Theoretical Physicist working on his PhD with research focused on the Foundational Issues of Quantum Mechanics at the University of Maryland. As we prepare for Part Two – Strangers – of our 3-part look into memory, dementia & memory loss, I invite you to take a deeper look inside the mind of a great thinker. Rather we disagree with his premise is, quite frankly, academic. Rather we understand his logic is of little relevance. What is more important is allowing our minds to dissect a puzzle, to interpret knowledge of a different kind, to expand our world on another level and to briefly, absorb the discipline of quantum physics.

With a flurry of quantum logic that defies logic, you unwrap life’s riddle by explaining the conundrum that is the enigma. Well done.

Thank you for your comment. Quantum mechanics contains so many enigmas and also answers to philosophical questions that I believe are still not entirely seen and realized. I am hoping by sharing my understanding of it I can see thinkers like yourself participate in this realization. Quantum logic will eventually help in the coming of a new paradigm shift I believe. I am myself very inspired by the deep links between QM and German Phenomenology. It is a pretty interesting take on the nature of conscious experience, similar to QM’s implications.

Interestingly, I wrote a piece in 2001 along these same lines. I have zero scientific background, but the subject of Quantum Mechanics has fascinated me for many years. I’ve reposted it here: http://alarconvictor.wordpress.com/2014/10/17/439/

I am going to read it. It sounds very interesting. I have zero knowledge about zen but I always wanted to know its ideas. Thanks for sharing this.

Oh, nicely done, sir! Although I know very little about the mechanics of quantum physics, I have been known to “think” in quantum physics (a fact that makes it difficult for most of my peers to understand what I am about). I thoroughly enjoyed your words. Thanks for sharing!

I thank you for reading it; I like that you say you “think” in quantum physics, because I have come to understand that quantum physics requires a peculiar way of thinking which is different from normal thinking and that is perhaps why they can’t easily understand you; this thinking in QM is very similar the way a mystic thinks about The Absolute and the Infinite principle since normal comprehension can’t grasp that. It is a very non-dual way of thinking. It is great to know some else that thinks this way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this post and your shared perception/insight. I myself am a seeker, ever expanding my awareness and the mass consciousness. Being conscious and being present as I have enriched my being in many ways by observation and the study of Metaphysics, Philosophy, and Quantum Theory it as an honor to read your post. I look forward to exploring the other thoughts you have chosen and will in the future choose to express. Thank you for being you and for contributing in such a positive way to our global consciousness. Namaste!

Dear Joe, I appreciate you reading my work and giving your wonderful feedback; it makes me very happy to see seekers like you who are committed to truth, for after all we are parts of One and the same thing looking to be reunited. It is great to know that I have something to offer and it is a pleasure to have readers like you. I am looking forward to read and enjoy your work as well. It is wonderful that we find each other and make a stronger current toward global unity. Namaste my friend.

Incredible that the insight humanity is realising now through science, the Buddha experienced through meditation more than 2,500 years ago.

That is very true. I have seen that the infrastructure of quantum physics and those of Buddhism or Vedanta or other esoteric traditions are identical. It will take some time for science to truly realize that. Thanks for reading my piece.

The Bohemian introduced me to your writing. I express your last line as my own knowing. Buddhism is very much in alignment with quantum physics as enlightenment is the realization of emptiness and the understanding of continuity of consciousness which is energy. I look forward to reading more of your work. These are exciting times we live in – with the truths of quantum science that are so liberating colliding with the continued ignorance and fear that keep so many locked in wars and “isms.” If people would just learn to breathe, sit quietly, and contemplate that all that is material that has a beginning will have an end – we could allow everyone to enjoy the endless bounty of this play we exist in. Buddhism also teaches we all have karma and this material world is suffering until each of us realizes we and only we can create our own world – as you said – and live in the light of this marvelous energy.

I thank you for reading my piece and leaving this wonderful comment with which I wholeheartedly identify. It is exactly as you said; it is fears of our own making that keep us in prisons of our minds. I 100% like and agree with you that the solution to end suffering is to be able to stand emptiness, to sit quietly and just be without having to be something or someone. Only then we realize that emptiness is fullness. It is great that we come together and make the global realization a faster and a stronger process. Existence is bliss; Thanks a lot for your great comment.

I love the way you wrote this. It’s energizing and thought provoking. When I wrote “What is Color?,” I wanted a way to share with people that color means nothing. That we, our minds, make something into something when there’s no need to. But I think that you put it a better way.!?!?

Thank you for your comment; actually I read your “what is color” and like it very much since it addresses the same issue from a more engaged perspective. As you pointed out the concepts are our own additives, means of judgment so we can feel better about ourselves. but in reality these names and forms are only superficial. They don’t mean anything in themselves; we make them mean what we want to. I like that capture this essence from a very human perspective. Things you say happen on a daily basis to us, unfortunately. Hopefully our words can make a difference.
